A medical practice with the desire to assist those with physical limitations (disabilities, injuries and amputations). Frans Marx is a registered Orthotist and Prosthetist at the Health Professions Council of South Africa. The practice is registered with the Board of Health Funds (body of medical aids) and corresponds directly with all Medical Schemes, Workman's Compensation and Road Accident Fund.
Treatment that you will receive from Frans Marx is conservative. This means that the problem/cause of the problem is identified during consultation and treatment is then prescribed to promote healing and reduce pain, discomfort and instability. The key to this type of orthotic treatment is to stabilize the body part. Treatment normally involves a brace/support around the affected area. This can be a low profile spinal support or a correcting knee brace for Osteoarthritis. Other types of treatment for feet, ankles and knees may involve shoe modifications.
Artificial limbs (prostheses) are designed according to the area of amputation, age and lifestyle. We always try to replace what was lost, therefore aim to restore quality of life. A suitable prosthesis is designed and should be strong and light-weight. The device should also restore your function.
Wheelchairs, crutches and electric scooters are some of the more popular devices that provide solutions to physically limited people. Your requirements are important to us, we therefore need to evaluate you abilities and consider your needs before prescribing the correct wheelchair or walking aid.
Although being passionate about assisting physically challenged individuals, we fabricate and provide patient specific designed supports, braces and prostheses. We deal mostly with fractures, sprains, disabilities, amputations and strokes.
Based in Boksburg, Frans Marx also conducts home visits in the East Rand to assist in further care and rehabilitation.
